Digital Fabrication
In addition to wood shop training, I also completed a class on digital fabrication this semester to further build my tool belt. I learned CAD modeling in Rhino 3D, laser cutting, and 3D printing.
To practice laser cutting, I created a clock by the theme of Le Petit Prince, one of my favorite French stories. The middle reads the quote "Tous les grandes personnes ont d'abord été des enfants" meaning "All adults were first children." The project involved two thru cuts and a mixture of engraving and etching.
For 3D printing, I decided to print a 1/5 scale model of my current studio project. The file was prepared in Solidworks and printed on a MakerBot. Printing a model allowed me to confirm all of my measurements and feel confident when cutting my wood. You can read more about the entire project here.
